Pair #6 with a Famous Person!

Yes, here is proof I was knitting pair#6 at a book signing...only my most favorite living author! Diana Gabaldon was appearing at the local Barnes & Noble. So I packed up the DPN's and was off!

The yarn itself was also a nice find...On-line sock yarn color #81. I found it at the Naked Sheep in Bennington, VT. It changed colors so often, I never got bored, and no Second Sock Syndrome.

Found my way back!

Rumors that I hung up my needles were greatly exaggerated. I'm still slogging along!

Pair number Nine - a Cat Bordhi classic, knitted with Regia Crazy on US 2's. What's really crazy is that I took great care in matching the yarns of two skeins for about the first three yards so they would be identical. Guess that's why they call it crazy! In the picture, I think this pair look like they are subject to an electric charge, or the horizontal hold on the television is giving up! At least they don't glow in the dark . . . I don't think! This pair will be part of a gathering of 50 gifts for a dear friend who is turning 50 in a couple weeks. Our quilt group made her a quilt, too. Should be a great surprise party!

Now for something completely different, Embossed Leaves from Interweave Knits, "Favorite Socks" done on US 1's with Steinbach Wolle Strapaz. I'm really happy with the way these turned out. Especially since I stumbled a couple times, and had to frog about half a pattern repeat each time. I wasn't too excited about them then!
Last weekend, I went with a couple friends to Columbus, Ohio, to the National Quilt Association annual show. Imagine my glee on finding a knitters convention there, also. At lunch, I announced to my friends that I was going to make a quick stop at the Knitter's Merchant Mall to see what I could find. They just laughed, and said they were surprised I held out as long as I did. Anyway, next post, I'll show the treasures which I acquired.

I have one sock done and the ribbing complete for the second on my eleventh pair. Can you believe we are approaching the quarter mark on this adventure? Knit on!

Number Nine, Number Nine

Isn't that a Beatles song? Visions of Paul McCartney keep popping into my head as I write the words.

I finished the RPM socksfrom Knitty last night, pair number nine for the plunge. Sorry the picture is so bad. The dark colors in this Fleece Artist yarn don't show up well on screen. It's the colorway Parrot: deep blues, greens, fuschias and purples, all very luscious. These are definitely winter socks, though. The yarn is really thick and squishy, especially in the spiral rib pattern. This is a very easy pattern, and looks better on the foot than off. It works well for variegated yarn with short color repeats.

I'm working on the Jaywalker socks in Jitterbug in Jay (Colinette). I thought the color name was appropriate. It's an incredible mix of turquoise, teal, purple, jade, olive and kelly green, and the Jaywalker pattern shows off the short repeats very well. The color doesn't really look like any blue jay I've ever seen, though. I'm using 76 stitches on a 2.5 mm needle. This yarn is quite thick, a lot like Socks that Rock. I'm making it slightly shorter so I don't run out. I was lucky enough to trade some other yarn that I wasn't wild about for this wonderful stuff. Turquoise has been my favorite color since the summer of love. It's hard to believe that was 40 years ago, and I missed it because we moved from San Francisco to Connecticut that June.

I don't know how you are all meeting the pair a week goal. I'm still on track but I haven't been able to work on anything else since April 1st.

Ten & Eleven

Loved this Opal hand painted banana colored yarn so much I made two pairs. Simple top down pattern #3s and 56 sts. Now I can't wait to wear them!

Seven of Fifty-Two

Regia Jacquards in Color #5173, 60sts on 2.25mm needle, basic top down, heel over 30sts, toe decrease to 20sts. These are for the store. They are probably the best fitting vanilla socks I've ever knit! (So of course they aren't mine.) They are pair seven of the 52 Pair Plunge and my June socks for the SAM3 KAL. I finished them at almost midnight last night, plus all it does is rain lately, so no outdoor shots. This was my WWKIP Day project.

Happy knitting!

More Socks (19/20 through 21/22)

You know you are on too many blogs when your post winds up on the wrong blog. Trust me to be oatmeal for brains. I now know the day of the week only by looking at my watch.
Pair (whatever - I will get the count caught up as soon as I am home and can see my spreadsheet)
The pattern is Rib on the Side from Fiber Trends. They are designed to be fraternal. If you wanted them to match, you would have to stripe the feet in order not have to use three skeins of yarn. I had an extremely limited amoung of each yarn left.
The yarn is Apple Laine. I think purchased from Loopy Ewe. And knit on a variety of 2,5mm needles.
>Rib on the Side
Heel Detail
And then there are Broken Rib
The yarn for those orange/pink broken rib socks is Dicentra Designs in Sunset. At 375 yards for 4 oz, it is slightly heavier than the traditional sock weight yarns. Composition is 50% wool, 50% alpaca. I am not going to be wearing these until the weather gets cold.
Sunset Broken Rib
And the Victorian Lace knit out of Angel Sea Wool (Fleece Artist)
Victorian Lace

That maight catch me up for the moment! Since I have just cast on the June Sockmania pattern

Pair 5!

Here are my fifth pair of socks for this kal. They were knitted in Trekking XXL on size 2.5mm Opal Bamboo dpns. The pattern is Ladies Lacey Sock by Sue Morgan. I seem to have managed to get very behind with this. I've too many other projects on the go. Pair 6 are all knitted, they just need buttons adding to the cuffs so they should be finished this evening.

6-7-8 Knit them straight

I finished pair number 8 last night, but I think I neglected to post pairs 6 & 7 here, although I did post them on my own blog. Two pairs were knit from stash yarn and one from newly acquired yarn. This challenge has kept me hopping, and I haven't knitted anything but socks in two months. I may eventually resort to knitting baby socks to keep up with you sock knitting whirlwinds, but not yet.

I was at a not so LYS a few weeks ago and the owner asked me if I had heard of the 52 pair plunge. I was able to tell him I was a part of it and had been keeping up with the challenge. Due to being sick for two weeks (and distracted) I only finished two pairs of socks in May. I've fallen a little behind, but I've got three single socks all done, so I will catch up. I finished sock one of pair number 9 last night and cast on for its mate right away. Details on my blog.
The lavender pair are the Monkey socks by CookieA, in Shelridge Farms Ultra. Since I made these on 80 stitches to fit my ankles, I ran out of yarn on the toes and had to add some Lorna's Laces nearly solid in violet to finish the pair.

The cream colored pair is made from Regia wool/cotton in the Grapevine Pattern from More SKS by Charlotte Schurch. Great pattern, great book, great yarn too.

Pair eight is made from Opal wool/cotton in Hundertwasser Positive/ Negative. I have about 3/8th's of the skein left, enough to add to a solid blue for some more summer socks. I posted the Vine Lace Stripe pattern for these on my blog. I may add a crocheted edge to the scalloped top, depending on how well they stay up when on my feet.

Happy knitting everyone!
Hi Everyone,

Long time no post, but I have been reading! I'm amazed at the amount of socks being cranked out. At this point, I have no idea how far behind I am with this KAL, but I'm not worried. I was shocked at the amount of socks I've see in my drawer now. After this KAL, I will definitly NOT need anymore for myself. So, here's what I've been up to:

Pair 5: Regia Crazy Colors. Size 1 KP circular. I had fun with these. Don't remember the stitch count, but do remember they were different for each sock. Each sock has a different toe and heel as well. One is regular short row, and the other is garter ridge short row. Both, feel great!

Pair 6: Infamous Monkeys by Cookie A. These socks were so dang addictive, they flew off my needles. Previously, I had said I would only knit 1 pair of Cookie socks a year. The Pomo's just drained so much energy out of me. I"m glad, I didn't listen to myself. These socks were easy, and fast to boot. KP 0 circular needles. Lorna Laces in Bittersweet

Equally infamous, I present you Jaywalkers. This is actually my 2nd time knitting these. My 1st pair was when I first started sock knitting. These fit me so well. I did the modified toe up version, on the 64st count. KP circs size 0, knit with LB Magic Stripes. These are definitly one of my fave socks.

Pair 8 is half way done, with the mate on the needles right now as we speak. Pair 9 keeps getting pushed back, because I refuse to cast on for the mate, as the 1st one took so much out of me. Whew this fun!

Chugging along...

Here's another pair, number 5 to be exact. Still not caught up yet, but I'm not giving up! These are for me, knit from sale sock yarn (we love sale yarn!). For reasons I can't figger, I knit these two inches longer than usual. (No wonder they took so long to knit!)

And I was in such a rush to post, we skipped the blocking...pardon us.

Off to start the next pair...

03 June 2007

Been knitting, but not blogging here. Blogger seems to hate me, so I'll leave the photos out for now. For details, feel free to browse my blog or my Plunge page.

Suffice it to say, I'm in the middle of Pair 20 and having a blast. I took a sock "breather" in May to work some other projects, a fingering-weight sweater for me and cotton tanks for my daughters.

Nice to see such a huge amount of progress from all!

Pairs 2 - 7

Well, I have been knitting, just not posting... These pairs are all ones that I'd started ages ago but had put aside when I grew tired of plain stockinette and discovered hand-painted sock yarn. It feels good to finally get them off the needles.

Pair 2: Opal Petticoat (stockinette, Addi 1)

Pair 3: TOFUtsies (stockinette, Addi 0

Pair 4: Regia Cotton (stockinette, Addi 0)

Pair 5: Opal Petticoat (stockinette, Addi 0)

Pair 6: Mystery Yarn (basketweave, Addi 1)

Pair 7: Treking XXL (broken rib, Addi 1)

Way Behind But Determined to Catch Up

Pattern: "Seduction Socks" from Interweave Knits
Yarn: "Golden Sunset" from Susan's Spinning Bunny
Needles: Size 2 Addi Turbo circs

Yes that says "1". I'm terribly behind but I am determined to catch up, at least to my personal goal. I have socks cast on all over the place and will just work on them all a little more each day.

Fire on the Mountain - 19/52

19/52
ribbedfireonthemountain.jpg

Using Fire on the Mountain, medium weight STR from Blue Moon Fiber Arts, my original intention was to knit Vinnland from Anti Craft. But the pattern got lost and will be saved for some solid green yarn that just came in. Switching to 4/1 ribbing on the fronts - knit on 60 stitches on 2,5 mm needles.

The rest of the information can be found on
my blog along with the joys of two weeks of field duty in the back corner of Germany.

4 pairs to add

I think I haven't posted about these 4 pairs yet. This will make my total 6 pairs so far. Counting that I only finished one pair in May, I'm horribly behind. I think I'll knit a few pairs on bigger needles (my fave being 2mm needles for socks) but I'm not going higher then 3mm. Well, with one exception. I fell in love with a pair of socks from Favourite socks, and part of the leg is knit on 4mm needles. I plan on going down to 3,25mm for the foot so it's only cheating a little bit on my own rules!

Anyway, here are the 4 pairs I still needed to show (I wanted to make a nice collage but I can't work Flickr well enough yet and I don't have my usual programs on my new Laptop so I'm just going to do it this way). For more info on the socks go to my Flickr page (by clicking on the picture).

Sockret pal socks

Knit for my Sockret pal! First I couldn't post about them as she hadn't recieved them yet, and then I forgot! They were finished at the very beginning of April, so I'm counting them as a pair (I think I'm a bit desperate as to getting my total amount, but I'm still knitting plenty of socks!). Pattern from Nancy Bush (need to look it up again), with Satakieli yarn.

Pomatomus Socks - finished

Pomatomus socks for my sister, Lorna's Laces Sheperd Sport in Bittersweet.

Waves socks

Based on Sensational Knitted Socks, out of left over Lorna's Laces and Dale of Norway Baby Ull. Love them!

Anklets

Anklets, my own handdyed, toe up with short row heel.

So that's it for this update. Hopefully more socks in the near future! I have plenty on the needles so I don't think it'll be a real problem.

Happy knitting!
