52 Pair Plunge, sock # 52

Hi I have been absent for the longest time due to unforseen circumstances, but I have been knitting all the time and now I have finished 52 pairs at least. All the 52 pairs that I have taken photos of are at my Flickr album,I will continue to knit socks and will probably post again.

#22

I gave away pair number 21 to the sister in law. Let's hope I get an up-grade on the Christmas gift this year. :)

Here is pair number 22, Little arrowhead pattern from Sensational Socks book. Initially hated he pattern, but this week it seemed better than all the work I had to do. Procrastination?

The yarn is Knit picks Bare hand-dyed with Kool-aid lime-lemon-orange. Loads of fun!

Next "pair" off the needles!

Had to change chairs so the colors would show up better! The pair on the left are Knit Picks Memories merino on US 1's, and as soft as can be. The pattern is Monkey, and when its' mate is complete, they are off to New Jersey to my Monkey Swap pal. The pair on the right is the second pair of Socktopia's "Eleanor pattern" done on US 2's; yarn is Schachenmayr Regia. I really enjoy that pattern. I have turned the heel on the first Tofutsies mock cable . . . I'm not inspired so much by that one. I think the pattern is so boring. But, I will give Tofutsies another try in another pattern. The yarn is certainly soft!

In six weeks, I'm going to Florida for a week with my quilting friends . . . and a couple who are becoming knitters, too! I found a great little make-up bag resembling a small train case, that will hold just enough yarn, and a tiny kit containing plastic yarn needles, a tape measure, a needle gauge, a crochet hook, and also slip over my wrist. I'm determined to take only one project with me . . . of course, I will have a spare skein or two in my luggage! I'll have quite a bit of time in Atlanta. We all very carefully planned our route through Atlanta instead of a direct flight, merely for the convenience of my DSIL to connect from Dallas, and to gather up Patti, who lives in Atlanta. Well . . . DSIL got a direct flight to Tampa! Fortunately, we all arrive within a few minutes of each other, but what do I care? I'll have my knitting!

Auction success!

I donated three pairs of socks, and a pair of mittens to the Barn Dance and Auction for Prophetstown State Park in Lafayette, Indiana. I gave a pair of Embossed Leaves, Jaywalkers, and a pair of Wool-ease sport weight to my friend who serves on the board. She sent me a note this morning to report they sold for $45 a pair! I'm just delighted!

17 of 52 Done

I just finished pair 17! I knit them using my sister's new pattern called Hearts-A-Plenty, in Paton's Kroy/Fancy Free. These were a fast knit, started them 9/12/07 and finished them tonight. The yarn pooled differently on each sock, but they turned out so pretty.

Bear's socks done!

I'm waaaay behind but here's another to add to my set!

16 September 2007

21 and 22!

This pair is Opal superwash made on US Size 3's. Pattern is basic 56 stitch, 56 rows. I was suffering a rotten cold, and this pattern was perfect for when one's brain is clogged. I was able to just knit on "auto pilot".

Still playing catch up, this is another pair of Zig Zags in Regia 6 fadig crazy. I had to "paste" a couple times to make the top of the legs and heels march. Once I started the two decrease of the second sock, I didn't care! I love ths pattern for the slightly heavier sock yarns. The texture does such scallop-typed things to the stripes, and the little eyelets add interest.
Currently on the needles is some merino wool in a colorway called, "Rocky Mountain Dusk" in Cookie A's popular Monkey pattern for Monkey Swap Three. I'm anxiously awaiting the yarn I selected from Little Knits for my sock pal. They are pretty speedy on delivery, so I think it will probably arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday. Two other socks in progress are Socktopia's Eleanor in a rose/pink/rusty colorway, and Tofutsies in a mock cable. I've turned the heel on both, and should be steaming for the toes this evening.
I think I hear my sock yarns calling me!

17 & 18

Another pair of "DoubleCross" socks based on a stich pattern from one of Barbara Walker's books.
Yarn: Rosemary & Thyme colorway from The Woolen Rabbit.
Needles: Knit Picks US0 (2mm).
84 sts.

And another pair of "Summer of Love Lace"
Yarn: Koigu KPPM & KPM.
Needles: Addi Turbo US1 (2.5mm).
72 sts.

Pair 18

Pair # 18 just came off the needles. I have several more in the works. These are knit in Gypsy Knits yarn in the Rose Garden colorway. 64 stitches and size 1 dpns

Plodding along . . .

Need to post a picture later, but I have finished another pair of socks in 56 stitches - 56 rows on US size 3's . . . though, I'm still two pair behind. Have an additional sock and the ribbing at the top of its' mate made. I joined Monkey Swap Three since I want to knit another pair of those anyway. Found the most perfect colorway to share at Little Knits . . . Banana with chocolate syrup . . . a hand-paint. Fearing that my swap partner will not see the humor in that, I selected some Trekking Pro Natura wool and bamboo blend to send, too. Has anyone besides me ordered the new Harmony laminated birch circulars available at Knit Picks? They look lovely, and colorful. Last post, I noted that my "socks-some assembly required" basket had doubled, and was overflowing. Thinking my DH might be perturbed, I tidied it all up yesterday. It's nice that it is so compressible . . . I managed to make it fit inside the baskets and not appear to be overflowing. Of course, it's a bit like putting one's thumb in the dike . . . pull a skein out, and it's all going to burst forth in a rush of color! I will have to do it all over again when my swap yarn arrives . . . because I ordered a couple more skeins for myself that were on sale. I'm finding that my addiction to yarn in general is compounded in sock yarn. It's so much easier to justify just one or two extra skeins, as opposed to one or two extra sweater projects. Don't have any trips planned until November, but DH is working an auction Saturday. I can go to watch, and sit and knit uninterrupted!

Few more

Thank goodness for yarn swaps and stash-enhancing trips. I'm trying to work through existing yarn before tackling the newest, but the mailman isn't making it very easy.
42: Opal Rainbow. Toe-up and pretty tall.
43: Jaywalkers in Regia Canadian
44: BMFA Club Sock. Love these.
45 is halfway done, an original I can't share photos of yet.
46 is halfway done too, Titania's Revenge in Louet Gems solid. That pattern, my friends, has TEETH!
Happy socking, all!

11, 12 and 13

Here are pairs 11, 12 and 13. From the left, that's my daughters foot in her adaption of the feather and fan pattern that I made up myself. There is a single feather & fan pattern running down the top of the foot.

Mine are next, feather and fan pattern. The yarn is "OnLine", can't remember the color name, and the tag has gone missing. As I was knitting these our daughter told my husband (dad) that she thought it would be nice if she and I had matching socks .. so we do, sort of.

Lastly is another pair of socks for my niece for her birthday.

Pair 14 is half done. Hope to have them done by Friday, because that is when my friends exchange students b-day is. He's from Columbia, and is finding it quite cold here in Nova Scotia. So I'm knitting him a pair of wool socks. Started them Saturday morning, and toed off the first one this afternoon.

#21

Here is Flame Wave from Fav Knits. I am a little disappointed with the pattern not showing up very well with this varigated yarn. I really need to get control of myself and buy sensible solid yarns, not the fun color-changing and striped types. ON to pair 22.....

#16 Done

I finished my 16th pair. I knit them with STR Watermelon Tourmaline medium weight. 60 stitches on US2 dpn's. I knit them plain. I have several more on the go that I need to finish.

# 17

Pair 17 finished.

I am not sure I have any hope of hitting the 52 pair mark by the end of this..... but I will knit on. These are knit in Cherry Tree Hill Sockittome, in the Spanish Moss colorway. US 1 dpn's, and 72 stitches.

Twenty!

It's been a busy few weeks, but I got these cool socks completed. Broadripple in Fixation color number 9385. Again, I am not fond of the yarn, but the pattern outcome is fabulous. So instead of continuing to try burning through stash... uhm.. I ran out and bought another color. Bad Sockergirl!

Three more pair!

Haven't posted in a while. Trying to catch up. The first pair is Eleanor from Socktopia made with Opal on US 2's. It doesn't show clearly in the picture, but the pattern is a diagonal eyelet pattern that is easy to remember, and fun to knit. They matched up with hardly any effort.
This pair is Regia 6 Crazy Color (imagine that) done on US 3's. The pattern is Zig-Zag, and with the slightly larger gauge, I thought I could gain a day or two toward getting back on schedule. The pattern is an easy repeat, and I love the scalloped look it gives this yarn, so much that I used it again with another couple skeins from my "socks-some assembly required" basket.

In this second pair, the repeat of the pattern in the yarn was really long, and it had an alternate variation in it. It is most apparent in the heels. One repeat has a couple rows of blue, and the other doesn't. I decided it wouldn't show on the bottom of the foot so much. Then, as I approached the toe, the yarn pulled off to get to the matching start had to be added in to finish.
I bought a grab bag of Opal yarns on sale from Little Knits. I started out trying to make my own selection, but there were too many good choices. So, I put the burden on them, and I love what they sent me. I haven't looked again for a couple days . . . I know I would be tempted to order another grab bag, but if anyone is interested, there is free shipping on the grab bags.
I have experienced Deja Vu. Several years ago, I took a class on scrap quilting, so I could use up some of my three baskets of scraps. By the end of the course, I had five baskets of scraps. At my "nest" in the living room, there is a basket of sock yarn under the end table, and one in front . . . which is spilling over the top. My sock knitting bag has four pair "under construction". Lucky for me, my DH is working at an auction tomorrow. That's how I finished the second pair of Zig Zags yesterday.
My sister-in-law arrives from Texas on Wednesday, and we are off on my Quilt Guild's fall retreat. I'm taking two pairs of socks as gifts for the director and his wife. They take really good care of us. If only there were a way to get my sides and lungs into condition for the laughter, I'd be all set!

I only finished two pairs of socks this month so I am way behind again. The purple ones are Cable Rib socks from the Favorite Socks book, and the camo-looking ones are Ocean-Toes from Cat Bordhi's new sock book. That gives me 19 pairs so far. I better get moving!

Pairs 14 - 19

I am also behind. I have not had an opportunity to post recently as I have been busy with my family. I am trying to get back into the swing of things, so I am including a group picture of my most recent pairs:
