TTFN

Upon joining this group I knew I had a good chance of hitting the 52 mark. Then the Seasocks cruise came and my mojo was knocked out of whack. This past week my husband and decided to pick up our temporary roots and move back home. We plan to be back in Florida by mid July. School is out at the end of this week and the moving insanity begins.

With all of this going on I will be so far behind that I just feel it would be best for me to enjoy watching from afar.

I wish all of you the best in your pursuit,

2 socks on 2 circs...

Hiya, I have a Knit Picks tutorial for 2 socks on 2 circs as a PDF. I just checked, but it is not available on their site anymore.

Anyone who wants a copy, please e-mail me at sweetpea at sweet-p dot net.

Cheers Eva - PS: I also have a tutorial that I downloaded somewhere for 2 socks using magic loop.

PS2: is there a reason why we can't comment anymore?

Socks on Two Circulars . . .

is easy as pie, Teante! I learned from Cat Borhdi's book, "Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles". There was also an article in Knitter's magazine in about 2000.

For my own use, I cast all the stitches onto one circular needle, and at that point, I find it easier to work the first row of the sock. Slip half the stitches to the second needle. Make certain the stitches are not twisted, and line them up next to each other. I use a crochet hook to catch the tail of the cast-on, and join to the foundation row. Then, I just begin working around the sock, half the stitches on one needle and half on the other. It looks just the same as when one is ready to work the graft at the toe, although there is a larger gap in between. I work all of the leg pattern, then work the heel on one needle only. I know I've seen a tutorial on the internet, but can't wrap my mind around where exactly, at the moment. I'll go scouting, and if I find it, will make another post. Trust me, if you can knit socks on three or four double points, you can easily make the transition to two circulars. I find that it eliminates ladders at the joins, too, because the stitches are worked against the narrow cable, and not a fat needle, so they draw up very nicely. And best of all, I don't have to worry about a lost needle . . . they are completely contained on the work.

Try it . . . you'll like it!

2 Socks on 2 Circulars?

Hi gang!

I'm looking for information on how to knit a pair of socks at the same time on 2 circulars. I know it can be done because I've seen it and I've seen mention of it online but I'm having a hard time finding good directions on how I can teach myself. Any suggestions?

One of the many reasons I joined the plunge was to learn new techniques in sock knitting such as a pair of socks as the same time and toe up.

Thanks a bunch!

Lava Flow

Yarn= Earth Birth from Lisa Souza
Needles = 2,5 mm needles
Stitches = 60
Pattern - Lava Flow, personal pattern

Cuff down on size 3 classic circulars

Time marches on!

Took my seventh pair, the popular Monkey pattern by Cookie A, on US 1 circulars off the needles Thursday evening. Yarn is Knit Picks Essential Tweed. I really like the way the pattern shows up in the near solid color. I'm racing toward the heel flap on Pair #8, and enjoying the lacy pattern that will be revealed to you all in my next post.

In the category of "what are the chances?", I receive two yarn purchases today that I acquired through E-bay. I was mistaken on the color of one, but I'm not upset, because I got the same color in the second package . . . also the same dye lot. Two skeins came from Memphis, Tennessee, and four skeins came from Vancouver! I just can't believe they are the identical dye lot.

I've started making gifts of some of the first pairs. Two of my quilting friends had birthdays, so I gave them each a pair. Laura received the green wool-ease pair to wear to her children's athletic events, being the proper school color green for those occasions. Roseanna received the blue and white River Rapids socks. We stopped into visit a friend who is a widow, and I let her choose a pair. She selected the burgundy wool-ease pair, and a favored waitress at a small-town restaurant (great steaks and country ribs), who always inquires about my knitting, chose the green, blue and white striped Cat Bordhi standard pair. They all thanked me profusely, so that made me happy!

I'm journaling my experience as well as posting to this blog. At a future post, I'll snap a picture of my journal. I've kept a running total of yardage knitted . . . closing in on one mile . . . and added a picture of the finished socks, with the yarn label, and noted all the details. Any others keeping notes as you go?

Pairs 1 and 2

Yea, you read it right. I'll catch up, I swear! My First Pair Ever is the one that matches:
I hated the standard cuff-down pattern from my LYS, so I made my own mock-cabled pattern instead. Never one to do anything the easy way, I decided that for my next trick I would re-create an Egyptian sock from roughly 1200 CE for a term project in my Islamic Art class, and tossed toe-up, stranding and chart-reading into the mix along with my own hand-dyed yarn. The brown sock is a felted Roman-style sock for my Roman Art term project (I'm an art history major, could you tell?), so I'm going to count these two:

as one pair since I have no intention to make the second sock for either of them. Now that I'm back to knitting for myself and finals are nearly over, I should catch up soon. I also got my financial aid refund (finally!) and a brand-spanking new job, so I've been on a bit of a sock yarn bender. Pictures are here. Now if you'll excuse me, my needles and sense of competition are calling...

2, 3 and 4 done

Here are three more pairs and with 3 more on needles I'm hoping to get caught up by the end of the month. I'll throw in a few more pairs of baby socks, a quick knit and I'll donate those to the hospital or Women's Shelter. Here are my light weight version of the Hocrux knit with Patons Kroy Winter Eclipse, Fanny's from Socktopia in Regia Cotton(very comfy) and baby socks in a Regia I do believe.

Oh, to celebrate the month of May I'm hosting a contest so stop by my blog and leave a comment on the May 1st post! Now back to my regularly scheduled knitting time ;)

5th Done For Me

I'm almost caught up...here is pair #5 for me. Trekking Orange (sorry can't remember the #) knit in the Crosshatch Lace pattern from More SKS. Still more OTN's so hopefully I will be posting again soon.

Grasshopped

grasshopper 17may07grasshopperdetail
Yarn= STR Silky in colorway "Walking on the Wild Tide"
Pattern= variation on Knee High to a Grasshopper, the April Rocking Sock Club Pattern. The key change was knitting the back of the sock in 1x1 ribbing. It may not be as pretty as the mesh, but the socks are staying up after a couple of hours. All the yarn overs were done front to back, which made the p2tog a snap.
Knit on 2,5 Colonial Rosewood dps over 56 stitches.

I need something easy now to balance out the complicated pattern I created for Sockapalooza4

I have two more second socks that I will be turning the heels on today and one first sock that I am knitting the heel flap on now. Almost done with my Knit Picks Memories yarn. I love the way the colors stripe and pool. I have not decided which of my hand painted yarns I will use next. I am leaning towards my Perchance to Knit. It will be the first yarn I wind on my new electric yarn winder, another treat I am looking forward to!!

Getting Back On Track

PAIR #6!!

Only two days late this time! I had the first sock done on Friday of last week and was cooking on the second until I came down with strep throat on Monday. I was too sick to knit on Monday and Tuesday, but I was finally able to finish the sock today! Yeah! I not well yet, but well enough to knit (and blog) a little.

#5...tiny toes.

Finished this little pair tonight at our knitty night at Cutter's Point Coffee. Giving to a co-worker who is very excited to have his first grandbaby soon. It's a girl...hence the lavender cotton yarn. Again, more yarn from my stash. Ahhh.

Four and Five of Fifty-Two

Finished pairs four and five of fifty-two! The top ones are Broadripples and were for my MIL for Mother's Day. (We have the same size foot.) The second pair were for my Oldest One. He's been patiently waiting for them. They kept getting put on the back burner because of other projects that needed to be completed first.
More details over here.
Happy knitting!
