Finished the second Tofutsies Mock Cable. Fortunately for me, I had a long trip by car, and my brother-in-law volunteered to share the driving. So, I had plenty of uninterrupted knitting time, and was able to finish this classic SSS boondoggle. I used US #1.5 Harmony circular needles. I really like them, and hope to add more to my sock knitting kit.
Now, I just need to make a selection from the sock yarn basket of yarns to take on my Florida trip. I have a four hour layover in Atlanta . . . should be able to get lots done!

Pair 21 and 22
I am working this week on getting closer to caught up. I hope to finish at least one more pair. I think I am 9 pair behind right now. Not as bad as I had first thought. These are knit in Trekking 82. It has been the most unusual ball of Trekking I have knit and I really like them. Just plain vanilla socks, 68 stitches on size 2.25mm dpns.
And pair 22 is Cables Galore Knit in Cherry Tree Hill Sockittome yarn in the Spring Frost colorway. knit on size 2.5 mm needles. I really like knitting with the Sockittome sock yarn. I love the supersock from CTH but this yarn has a totally different feel to it. It is thicker and soft, with a slightly looser twist, and knits up beautifully.

Another Couple of Pairs
The Amazing Goblet of Fire Socks for my Hogwarts Sock Swap II Ravenclaw pal. I modified the Maze Hat pattern from Knitty to use in the sock. Knit Picks Palette yarn in fog and blue. The book colors for Ravenclaw House. DPNs, Stitchmarkers and a Little Silver Hermione bottomless beaded bag complete the package.
Socks That Rock in Lucy color way
These pooled in such an interesting way. The first sock is what I normally get but the second sock pooled vertically. That is totally new. I wish I could have gotten them both to do that!! I am over the hump, half way plus two.

I have finished pair 23 (I actually finished them on Friday, I'm just a little slow to report about them)!! I knit this pair using one of Monica's designs (available at The Loopy Ewe) called Victorian Swag. This is Trekking 04, on US1 dpn's. Another matching pair.

22 Pair Complete
Number 27 - past halfway!
Before I display my efforts, I thought you might like to see a vintage pair of baby socks. My office-mate, Jane, has these socks that were made for her father in 1909. I doubt that anyone would think of making black socks for a baby these days! We were trying to determine the fiber, because they definitely are not wool. They feel synthetic. We scouted around and learned that Rayon was invented in the late 1890's, and marketed as "Chardonnay Silk". The amount of stretch and "liveliness" of the yarn in these is surprising.
Here's Pair Number 27, Opal 6 ply in the Tutti Frutti colorway made with Wendy's basic toe-up sock on US size 2's. This is my first pair of toe sup socks, so I kept it simple. I want to try another pair, but at this point, I'd have to say I prefer cuff down, although I did appreciate being able to make the leg as long as I wanted, without worry about running out of yarn. So, this brings me back to my case of SSS - Tofutsies Mock Cable. I'm forcing myself to work on them a bit every day, and have about 3 inches finished on the cuff . . . why did I make the cuff so long! I like the result . . . it's just that the pattern has bored me after making a couple pairs of Monkeys. Also on the needles, the first of Socktopia's "Beatrix" clog sock for a friend. Have worked three pattern rows, using Trekking Pro-Natura. I should also add that I created another pair of mittens for a charity event. This time, two pairs of socks and the aforementioned mittens will be part of a silent auction at the YWCA Holiday Bingo event on Friday, November 2. I'll be able to go to this one, so will see how well they do myself! I hear my Tofutsie creation nagging . . . I mean . . . calling me!

20 Down, Many to Go
I finished a pair of socks this weekend. The first one has been done for quite some time. I was distracted by new yarns, what can I say : ) They are knit in Lorna's Laces in the Georgetown colorway. Size 1 dpns. The pattern is Triple Twist
Seventeen of Fifty-Two
I feel like I'm so far behind! Finally finished pair seventeen. I used Austerman Step Color 11. More pics/details and pattern found here.
Happy knitting!

Pair 21 Off The Needles

Creeping along
Pair 12
I'm still far far behind, but at least I'm knitting socks!
Pair 12 is a Christmas gift for the boyfriend :
Pattern : Whitby by Nancy Bush from Knitting on the Road
Yarn : Regia 6ply tweed in light blue (2 balls) and white (a bit of a ball)
Needles : 3mm inox circ
Started : October 9 2007
Finished : October 19 2007
Modifications : the original version didn't even go past the ball of the foot of my boyfriend, so I had to add 8 stitches (to the back of the sock, in the ribbing). I followed the pattern for the rest of the sock.
More info on my blog!
PS.: Thank you for all the lovely comments on my previous socks (the black & red socks). If I knew how to reply I would do so! :D

Low profile - high productivity!
Pair number 23, the ever popular Monkey pattern by Cookie A., made in Knit Picks Merino, Rocky Mountain Dusk colorway on US 2's. These were for my Monkey swap pal, Jennifer C. in New Jersey. They have made their journey, and were well-received.
#24 - some Regia in a pink colorway . . . pinks are so hard to find. These are Socktopia's Eleanor pattern, second time I've knit it. It is a favorite already. Made on US 2's.
#25 - Despite the way they photographed, these are a more subdued rusty red . . . in this case, they will be called Dark Persimmon, as they will be a silent auction item at the YWCA Holiday Party. Persimmon is one of the sponsor's colors, so these should be well-received. This is Cavy Shops Zig Zag sock in a an Opal 6-play on US 3's. I really like this pattern, too. Hope they do as well as others did at a charity auction . . . $45 a pair!
Pair #26 - halfway to the target, and hot off the needles, Trekking XXL in . . . believe it or not . . . a very green colorway. In the picture, it appears that nearly all the green disappeared, leaving only the other colors in the ply visible. Once again, these are Monkeys, but the texture doesn't show up well in the picture. As I have been working on them, they have received lots of comments on the color and softness. I actually tried to start the second sock to match the first, but I defy anyone to find to spots in the whole skein that match! So, fraternal twins it is!
Trying to overcome SSS on a pair of Tofutsies Mock Cable. I keep telling myself, I'll be caught up if I just get busy with that second sock. Also on the needles . . . just barely . . . a pair of Beatrix in Trekking Pro Natura for a friend who wears exclusively Birks, to the pattern on the heel should be visible.
Also, doing my first toe up in a 6 play . . . it's one of those patterns that is so simple, I'm sure I've done something wrong!

20 Down, 32 To Go
I finished my Sock Monkey Socks tonight. I knit them with some of the leftover yarn from my Edelweiss Socks. Regia Red and Natural with Trekking Tweed 285. Here they are with George (Mandy's sock monkey that she made from a kit many years ago...she insisted that I take a picture of my socks with him). It's a pretty close match too. Mandy likes them so well (and I think I have enough of the Trekking left) that she would like a matching pair. I started them 10/10 and finished them tonight. You can find more details on my blog.

Done!!
I completed the Plunge on October 13th, 2007 at 7:19 pm.
Details on my blog and Plunge album. (Blogger hates me and eats my photos.)
This was my first KAL ever, and I'm so excited to have been a part of it.
I will, of course, continue to check in, although I may be knitting sweaters and shawls while I do it.
Cheers,
Deb B. in cool and sunny central Nova Scotia.

Pair 20 - Rocket Dog Socks
A couple of weeks ago I was asked if I'd donate socks for a silent auction to
benefit Rocket Dog Rescue. Here's what I came up with.
The sock cuff idea is loosly based on the Socks That Rock club's "Summer of Love Lace" pattern but I've substituted a modified version of Barbara Walker's "Doggy" mosaic for the lace.
Yarn: Lorna Laces Shepherd Sock in Charcoal & Natural colors
Needles: Addi Turbo 2.0mm.
Cuff is 88 sts, body of sock is 72sts in a 2x2 garter rib

Pairs 10 & 11
I'm very far behind here and I don't know if I'll be able to get there in the end (still refusing to knit baby socks or DK socks for now). At least I'm knitting socks, and in honor of Socktober that's my main focus now!
Anyway, the socks. At the last day of September I finished my Spiral socks :
(Sorry for the lousy pictures but it has been overcast since Monday so this is the best I could get)
Pattern : Cornucopia Socks by Caroline Dlugy-Hegwer from SockPixie
Yarn : Cherry Tree Hill Sock yarn in Wildberries
Needles : 2mm addi turbo
Started : August 2007
Finished : September 30 2007
Modifications : the pattern sais to keep the eyelets going in the round on the foot after the heel, but I didn't like the idea of so much structure on the bottom of my feet, so I only did the eyelets on the top of the foot. They look great!
Next up, my first Socktober pair :
Pattern : my own
Yarn : Textiles de la Marque - Laine Chaussette, one ball black and one ball I handdyed red
Needles : 2mm addi turbo
Started : July 2007
Finished : October 2007

Stop The Bus
Hey, wait for me! I'm running a bit behind. I will try to catch up.
Here is pair number Eleven for me. These are Roza's socks from IK Spring '07. Artfully designed by Grumperina.
There is a complete pair that you can view on Trixies Stix. I just loved this photo, so I posted it.

Pairs #14-17
#14: Another pair for a swap, Child's Sock In Miranda Pattern from Knitting Vintage Socks knit in Sunshine Yarns Sweet
#15 and #16 were design projects that I can't show pictures of yet.
#17: Baby socks, plus a single that I had to replace due to a dog-chewing incident. I figure two baby socks plus one adult sock count as a pair. ;)

I started this pair of socks last November after getting the Fall issue of Vogue Knitting. I finally finished them yesterday! Edelweiss Socks. I knit them in Regia 4-fadig; black/red/natural. I wish I had taken a better picture with the heel, they are knit in the red and black. There was a lot of weaving in with this pair, but in the end it was all worth it. I love them!
