Hi All! :)

I joined the KAL a few days ago but have been kinda busy. I wanted to make sure I said "hey" to the group before we get started. I've been knitting on and off for a few years now. I got interested when I was working at a Dr's office and one the patients was sitting in the waiting room knitting a cute little baby item. I basically taught myself how to knit. Even though I was able to get the basics down, I had real issues with getting gauge. That was the cause for alot of discouragement and for my "off" times. A couple of years ago, I learned a technique for controlling the tension on my yarn and I've been since dubbed a "knit geek" by my daughter. Pretty much any of my free time is spent knitting and reading.

I think I might have been temporarily insane when I signed up this. 52 pairs of socks is quite a feat. But I'm going to give it my best shot. Forturnately, I have quite a few little feet to knit for. My DH and I have 6 children. That gives a lot of feet to knit for, but causes a bit of a problem when it comes to actually having time to do the knitting. I'm hoping that since socks are one of the more portable projects you can do, that will help that sometimes when I have to be somewhere my socks can go with me.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing all pretty footwear you guys are going to create. How many patterns do you all have lined up already? Does anyone have 52 patterns? Are you planning on knitting more than one pattern more than once? I'm curious what kind of game plan everyone has come up with to actually do a pair a week.

I have an Exell sheet with all the free sock patterns I could find - most of them with pictures - and I have a total of 225! And I haven't updated the list in over a year, I think I have more then 50 patterns to add. If you are interested, email me at rrej37 at hotmail dot com and I'll send you a copy of the list!

I can assure you there is plenty out there without having to take out the $$! :D

It would be fun if we knit up some socks, together, too - I mean, follow the same pattern

I'm not sure how many sock patterns I have, but I'm sure I have way over 200, not counting patterns in sock books/leaflets, not counting odd socks in the odd magazine or book, and not counting sock designs in my own head.

That being said, I'm planning on mostly making plain, st st socks or some ribbed socks. At this pace, we don't really have a lot of time to knit fancy spamcy socks every week!

Many of my socks are going to be plain stockinette...I have permission to knit during one of my classes, and ride the bus to campus and back besides, so I can find time to work on those throughout my day. Other than that, I have pretty much every sock book I've ever seen, a good number of actual patterns, and enough of a handle on how socks go together that I can add my own stitch pattern to a basic sock.

This is going to be fun! Crazy, but fun.

I haven't given much thought to what I'll do. I have one sock book, several patterns that have caught my eye for one reason or another, a few of Cookie A's patterns that I've been meaning to do, but for the most part I pretty much just cast on and do my own thing. I'd be glad to help anyone come up with their own if they'd like. Email me at sandy at sandysays dot net with sock pattern help in the subject line. If you have/use any of the instant messenger programs, I can help that way in real time if you'd like.

It hadn't occurred to me to chart my sock patterns. I've just put them in a 3-inch binder which is now about to explode. I can see however, that the spreadsheet with pictures approach would provide a great index to finding a particular pattern. I did separate the patterns by yarn weight.

Oh, this is going to be so much fun! We're down to hours till "launch"!

I want to make all of the patterns in Cat Bordhi's book Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles, and all but two pairs in Easy Knitted Socks by Jeanette Trotman. That will get me about half way there. I like the patterns Knit Picks Memories and Socks That Rock make on their own, so those will all be plain stockinette. That's my plan for now.
