4th Pair Done

My sister Monica received her birthday package today so now I can post these. I knit the Merino Lace Socks pattern from Favorite Socks book, in Trekking XXL 186. Still more on the needles, so I will get back to knitting now.

And I am glad this pair is done.

These started out to be the April SOM from Chameleon Color Works . The official pattern was for the length wise sock, which was split for the heel which is how you get a different color sole. the heel is knit in as an after thought. It is pick up and knit around for both the top and the ribbing with picot bind off. I like it, it is comfortable, except for the heel. So I decided to be fraternal with the second sock. It was knit in the round from the top down. After the heel, the foot was knit in the round (except for the back and forth on every red row to maintain the color separation.) Think of intarsia in the round. Yarn was bamboo merino in the reds, and merino tencil in moss for the contrast. On little fiddly needles.

Pair seven has one full sock complete and the beginnings of another. This weekend should bring some solid knitting time for me, so I look forward to that pair being finished.

I know. Not that impressive. Here's my first pair. In my defense, there's a few more on the needles and I'm also spinning 3-ply superwash merino that is full of purple softness that I can't wait to spin. More about my first pair on my blog.

Third pair down.

3 of .... wait, what was the goal again? I might need Ice Cream.


They're finished! I dyed the yarn using Jacquard dyes and Knitpicks Bare. The *self striping* came out okay for just winging it. The colours seem a bit odd until you lay them against jeans. I was concerned that perhaps I had underestimated the amount (the scale bit the dust) and so I made the heels in a different colour (also dyed by Moi). And finished with just the right amount that I could have made the whole bleedin sock. But Finished beats not, eh?

Here the latest Sock Madness "Mad Batik" pattern, with a handful of modifications. Used size #1 & #2 needles, Lanagrosse #4060 and Fortissima #1001. This was a fun experiment with stranding. I might try it again with another pattern.

They look pretty strange unblocked, but some people are pretty grabby about their socks. Which leaves me still cranking away on Shadow Socks, seeming like a forever knit.

This pair of Fancy Chevron Lace Socks (pattern by Judy Sumner) came off the US 6 needles about 9:45PM on Saturday night. I used some Wool-Ease sport weight yarn which I bought last week in Paducah, Kentucky. They are nice and soft. Of course, now that I've got the picture up, I see that the bruise on my leg came out in living color, too. It was the result of a close encounte with a coffee table corner . . . Can't win them all!

Was cruising the internet, trying to hunt down a bargain copy of Vogue On The Go Socks One. Amazon listed three copies, with a low price of $74.00. E-bay sold two copies, one for $51.00 and the other (with some other titles) for $74.00, so I decided this title would not join my library. BUT . . . on a whim, I googled the title, and found a copy at a knit shop on clearance for $6.42 plus shipping. Naturally, I pounced on that one! I have a few other titles on order, too, and I'm just on pins and needles waiting for them to arrive. Those include "Socks, Socks, Socks" from Knitter's magazine, The Twisted Sisters Sock Workbook, Vogue on the Go Socks Two, and Nancy Bush's "Knitting on the Road". Picked up the Bush "Vintage" book in Champaign, Illinois. If my "socks-some assembly required" basket were larger, I think I could sign up for the 208 pair plunge, and never knit the same pair twice. But, alas, I must acquire more yarn. I know that all of you in the KAL sympathize with this "problem".

I look behind....

But I promise, I'm not. I have about four or five others started with one sock finished of the pair so now I have to make myself sit down and finish them!

51 to go! It's not really as bad as it sounds. I have 4 more in various stages of production, so I should be able to catch up pretty quickly. This is the Horcrux sock from 6 sock knitalong.

I've got to get busy on more socks!

Road tripping has been great for my plunge progress, as I knitted my way through the Eastern provinces, Maine and New Hampshire. I can't really remember the last time I posted, so I'm sure I haven't shared photos of them all.

I am now halfway through pair 13, and so in love with the yarn (Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in Burgundy) and the pattern (Charlene Schurch's Scrolls from More SKS).

because they are evolved monkeys. Get it? At first I loved all the Monkey socks everyone was making; then I didn't want to jump on the bandwagon. I am not one for the bandwagon, by any means. Then, I started making the socks and LOVED the pattern. They are on 48 sts (rather than 64) I made them on 3.25 mm needles with DMC's wool cotton yarn. I love them, love them, love them. They are the first pair of real socks (not bed socks or footies) that are just for me. This is pair 6...

...pair 7 is a pair of baby socks made with microfiber yarn from Lion Brand. Same size needles. I don't know who will get them yet. I think I will give them with a baby blanket for a friend of my boyfriend. Even though my last post was as far away as 19 April, I have to slow down on socks to be able to finish said baby blanket. It'll be beautiful but I'll be behind later. AHHHH!

These are from Sockamania - Pattern Called May Day.

They are knit in STR. This particular colorway is Lemon Grass. As is common for many of my sock pairs, these are fraternal rather than identical. The leg and instep were knit on 2,75mm needles, the heel, sole and foot after the first repeat on 2,5mm needles.
I was thinking about keeping them, but my 14 year old has been watching them closely.

Here are my 4th pair. They are knitted in dk yarn on 3.75mm needles. The design is my own: a simple sock of 40 stitches with twisted rib and candlelight lace cuff.

They look a bit fluffy and bitty in the photo as I've had them on all day.

Only Four Days off Schedule...

I got a little off schedule, but I have not lost hope. Pair #4 is the Elfine pattern in a springy Trekking colorway.

Pair Number 3

Although I got off to a great start I'm a bit behind now. These are my 3rd pair. They are Embossed Leaves from Interweave Knits Fall 2005 and in the new Favorite Socks book. I knitted these in Sirdar Country Style 4ply on 2.5mm needles.
My 4th pair are well on the way - first sock done and just finished turning the heel on the second. Mmm.. I feel a pair of baby socks coming on to get me back on track.

LIFE Interruptus

I have completed some singles but no pairs. Life keeps interrupting my knitting - I hate when that happens.

Slow on the up load

It is so much fun to keep knitting. Taking time to photo and post seems to be a low priority because I tell myself.... I 'm almost finished with the next pair, so I'll post then. Probably tomorrow I will post that pair I have close to completion.
This is pair #3 & #4. The Red pair is Claudia's in Chocolate Cherry. (YUM) It is a toe up 56 sts on size 3. My friends challenged me to make a toe up. I am kind of old fashioned. The first sock was easy as I followed the instructions, then the second one did not look like the first one and needed an overhaul. Now they are much better. The Yellow Green Blue is The Mad Weave in Lorna's Lace Daffodil size #2 needles. Yes, my feet are very happy!

Cyber SEX and the end of Month #1!

Well, gals & pals, we're already a month into the plunge--and some of us have barely gotten our feet wet! A hearty congratulations to all of you who have completed at least 4 pairs of socks by this point in our challenge. To those of you (like me) who are not quite there yet, congratulations as well... I haven't heard of a single person who has gone "toe-up" over the plunge, or anyone being sent to the looney bin muttering about "turning heels" (yet).

I'm rather proud of myself that i'm not too far behind: pairs 2 & 3 have been completed and pair 4 is in the works. Unfortunately, i don't have any pictures of pair 3, as my camera went M.I.A. for a few days (during which pair 3 was completed and given away), but i am including a photo of the matching hat so you can get a rough idea. Pairs 2 & 3 were gifts to one of my fellow teachers and her newborn-to-be. She's due in a week or two-ish, so these pairs got moved up the to-do list... So, about those pictures:

For the month of April...

With design deadlines looming, I was beginning to wonder if I'd manage to end the month on track for keeping up.

Never thought I'd be grateful for triple digit temperatures like we've had for the past several days, but thanks to it being too hot to knit on anything larger, I managed to end the month with 6 pairs completed.

Fourth up is the "Orange you glad I didn't say banana" pair for Socktopia. Pattern is "Tidal Wave", available from South West Trading Company as a free download.

Then there's two more that I can't show pictures of just yet. Started out as one pair for an upcoming family member's birthday gift, that I designed on the fly. Was asked to send a pic to the yarn company, and they wanted the pattern, so made another pair as a sample, wrote up directions and sent those off. Info on when and where they'll be available to be added later.

I thought I was pretty prolific with the fo's coming off the needles, but following along and watching all the socks coming off the needles here have me rethinking that notion. WTG everyone! Keep up the great work!

Five's the Fave So Far

I finished my fifth pair for the challenge. I used the Broad Spiral rib pattern from More Sensational Socks by Charlene Schurch. It is such an easy pattern and looks really special. I'm not a fan of ribbing but the K4, P2 base was better than some, and the final effect is great. I used some vintage 2001 Opal no color name yarn that I've had in my stash. I didn't expect the striping that occurred, and they aren't completely even, so the socks are fraternal twins, but I'm okay with that. I can't get a better picture right now, but I swear both socks ARE finished.
